August 14 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
WHERE: Del Mar Fairgrounds – At the 22nd DAA monthly meeting. Exact location at the fairgrounds will be posted as more information becomes available. There will be NeverAgainCA supporters in orange shirts in the parking lot to guide you.
ATTIRE: In order to make a clear statement, we have invested in bright orange t-Shirts. For those who can, we ask for a donation from $10-20 and for those who cannot, we simply ask that you wear the shirts, often. Students are offered shirts free. Donations are used to re-order more shirts.
WHAT TO BRING: Please bring 2 to 4 friends who support the ending of gun shows at the Fairgrounds. We need a strong turnout as the NRA/SDCGO sent well over one hundred men to speak in support of the gun show at last month’s meeting.
PARKING: Free parking is available at the main entrance to the Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar.
GOAL: To convince the Board of Directors of the Fairgrounds (22nd Agricultural District) that the lives of our children and families are more important than the profit of a gun show which glorifies guns and killing. The 22nd District Agricultural Association, a nine member board appointed by the governor has the authority to end the hosting of gun shows at the fairgrounds and section 6.25 of their governance manual states: Whether or not a fair rents out their facilities for gun shows is a policy decision to be made by the fair board and their community.
BACKGROUND: For over 20 years, over the objections of many Del Mar City Councils and many petitions, the gun show has been produced by Crossroads of the West Gun Shows( crossroadsgunshows.com) four times a year with an annual net profit (pass through) to the 22nd Agricultural District of $400,000.00. After the massacre at Parkland, Florida, the Mayor of Del Mar asked citizens to find a way to express their concern over the gun shows in the Del Mar community. Hundreds of people in organizations that support sensible gun laws posted notes to the sites of various organizations asking for a way to show solidarity with the students in Parkland, Florida. This is our effort to offer all persons who want to send a strong message to the Fair Board: NO MORE GUN SHOWS. We need to end gun shows that glorify a gun as the solution to problems or a way to demonstrate power.
