BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In an average week during the school year 2018, there was one mass shooting in USA schools.  Five times a year there is a gun show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. After the Parkland mass shooting, a group of adults formed NeverAgainCA.org in support of the #NeverAgain movement started by Parkland students. Starting at the community and state level, NeverAgainCa.org organized to ask the Board of Directors of state owned California Fairgrounds to stop enabling gun and ammunition proliferation by hosting the sales promotions on state owned property.  The neighboring cities of Del Mar, Solana Beach and Encinitas passed resolutions to end gun shows.  State Representatives for 76,000 voters asked the same of the Board. Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom wrote the Board and said: ”If California continues to permit the sale of firearms and ammunition on state-owned property, we are sending a signal that we value the sale of firearms above the lives of Americans.”

Many California gun shows on state and county owned property are organized by Crossroads of the West Gun Shows.  “Crossroads show owner, Bob Templeton, and his son, Jeff Templeton, have felony convictions for federal firearms violations that could prevent them from organizing gun shows in California.”  Diehl, Phil and Littlefield, Dana, San Diego Union-Tribune, May 22, 2018.  This matter has been referred by the Del Mar Fair Board to the state’s Department of Justice. The NRA look-alike San Diego County Gun Owners PAC advocates for the continuance of gun shows on these public owned properties.  The members of the Fairgrounds Board are appointed to the Board by the governor.
